The District Head of Gabai in Gujba Emirate Council in Yobe State, Ali Maina Gabai, has been suspended “indefinitely” for alleged “negative statements, gross misconduct, disobedience and disrespect” to Governor Mai Mala Buni.
Gabai’s suspension was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary of the Emirate Mohammed Ali Yusuf, on Tuesday.
The letter with reference number GEC/BUNI/ADM/VOL -1-27 dated 18th October 2021 read: “I am directed by the Gujba Emirate Council to write and inform you by this letter that your service with the Emirate Council as the District Head of Gabai has been indefinitely suspended.
“Your suspension was as a result of your negative statements, gross misconduct, disobedience and disrespect to the constituted authority.
“For this reasons and owing to the magnitude of your misconduct, the Gujba Emirate Council has decided and suspended indefinitely your appointment with immediate effect as from today 18th October 2021 until further notice and pending investigation into the matter.
However, the letter did not specify the nature of the alleged disrespect, it was gathered thattge reason was not unconnected with the attitude of the district head when he wanted to exchange pleasantly with the governor some days before the incident.
It was learnt that the district head responded in a disrespectful manner and later rained abuses on Buni when he was asked by the governor’s ADC to remove his hands from his pocket before exchanging an handshake with the governor.
It was also learnt that Gabai was immediately arrested and detained at a police station before he was later suspended as district head.
