Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed optimism that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will retake the presidency from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
PDP lost presidency to APC after 16 years in power during the 2015 general elections.
However, the former vice president said there are glaring signs that the PDP will bounce back to reclaim the power it earlier lost.
He spoke after casting
his vote at the Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, venue of the PDP State congress on Saturday.
He said the peaceful and orderly nature of the congress are indicative that the party has respect for internal democracy and set to face the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
All the former executives of the party were re-elected and sworn in immediately after the election.
The election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.
Our correspondent reports that 2,614 delegates drawn from the 21 Local government areas of Adamawa are participating at the congress.
The Deputy National Chairman, Convention Committee of the party and Governor of Bayelsa State, Diri Duoye, Expressed satisfaction at the way the congress was organised.
Duoye, who is also the the returning officer,
said due process of the party’s constitution was followed in the dissolution of the past state executive organs.
He said, “The National Committee is very impressed and appreciates the way members organised themselves for the conduct of the congress.
“This shows that PDP is always united as one family to overcome all challenges facing the party amicably.”
