The Petroleum Tanker Drivers have called off their planned strike scheduled for Monday.
This was announced by the spokesperson of NNPC Garba Deen Muhammed in a short statement on Sunday.
The PTD decision came barely hours after NNPC urged the union to discard the planned strike, promising to invest on roads infrastructure through federal government tax credit scheme for road rehabilitation and reconstruction.
A statement by NNPC on Sunday said decision of shelving the strike “came after intensive engagement involving the leadership of the PTD, NNPC officials and other government agencies.”
Muhammed said “NNPC wishes to appreciate the maturity and patriotism of the leadership of the PTD; and to also reiterate its resolve to actively participate in finding a quick and effective solution to the concerns raised by the PTD.”
The tanker drivers decided to begin strike because of the bad road networks and highways across the country, leading to mass accidents claiming the lives and property of their members.
