The military says it will not condone any act of lawlessness by individual or groups during and after the local government elections in Plateau state slated for Saturday.
The Commander, Operation Save Haven, Maj.-General Ibrahim Ali, issued the warning on Friday in a statement by the operation’s spokesperson, Major Ishaku Takwa.
Plateau has witnessed many security challenges in recent times.
The commander urged traditional and religious leaders as well as parents and guardians to warn their subjects against being used to disrupt peace in the state.
He said the military unit had received Intelligence report of a planned disruption of the local government elections by some people.
“Operation SAFE HAVEN is hereby calling on all those evil minded individuals and merchants of violence to shelve their evil plan as troops are fully ready and will not hesitate to deal decisively with those bent on causing crisis before, during and after the election,” he said.
“Never again will OPSH allow individuals or group to cause pain and hardship on law abiding citizens. Already, the Commander has ordered troops to ensure that any body found fermenting trouble, under any guise and for whatever reason, is made to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
