Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, on Tuesday ordered the posting of Eworo Echeng to Anambra as the new commissioner of police for the state.
Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday said the posting takes immediate effect.
Echeng takes over from Tony Olofu who has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Anambra has witnessed several attacks by members of proscribed indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on civilans and security personnel, and destruction of government infrastructure.
The statement said the IGP has also deployed special forces to the state to beef up security and ensure the safety of the lives and property of residents.
Echeng, who was recently deployed as Commissioner of Police of Bayelsa State holds a first degree in history from the University of Maiduguri.
The IGP charged the new Police Chief to work with other stakeholders and patriotic forces in Anambra State to restore law and order leveraging on his professional experience.
He also called on residents of the state to support and cooperate with the new Commissioner of Police in his task of protecting the lives and property of all.
