A retired military general, Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Smith, has been abducted in Lagos.
AVM Smith was kidnapped around 6pm on Monday near Blenco Mall on Addo Road Ajah area of Lagos.
It was gathered that the gunmen who fired shot sporadically into air abducted AVM Sikiru Smith and whisked away in a waiting speedboat.
Eyewitnesses said heavy gunshots rented the air as the gunmen shot sporadically forcing people to scamper for safety, while Blenco shopping mall shut their entrance door.
In an SOS voice note shared by his driver, Corporal Odiji, the retired AVM engaged in a struggle with the gunmen before he was subdued
”They were shooting everywhere, I was fixing oga’s vehicle, when it happened. On my way back I saw them.”
”They went on a boat through the water, I ran to the site I saw oga’s glass and where he struggled with them before they took him. The moved from Pump and sell at Blenco area in ajah, enroute towards Ikorodu area through the water.”
The abducted retired AVM Smith is a cousin to former Inspector-General of Police and current Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith.
He is currently the Chairman of Double Wealth Ventures Limited – a dredging and engineering firm was supervising work on a site in the Ajah area of Lagos State on Monday when he was kidnaped.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Mr Adekunle Ajisebutu promised to make inquiries and give a detailed response in due course.
The Spokesman for the Air Force, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, also promised to make inquiries and provide information on the matter later.
However, AVM Smith was commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force as a Pilot Officer in 1979 and had a highly successful military officer that combined soldering with serious academic pursuit.
