Sarkin Gobir [District Head] of Isa in Sokoto State, Alhaji Nasir Ahmad, whose palace was attacked by angry youths last Monday, has sworn by the Holy Qur’an, asking God not to spare him for another week if he aids banditry in his domain.
Youths in the village had accused him and the state Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd) of aiding banditry in the area.
The district head took the oath at the Juma’at Mosque before the congregational prayer on Friday.
A video circulating on social media platforms showed Alhaji Ahmad standing in front of the worshippers with a copy of the Holy Qur’an hanging on his right shoulder.
“If you can recall, about two years ago we took an oath which was administered to us by the Chief Imam of Isa before the governor when, in our meeting with the governor, somebody raised an allegation that some of us are informants,” he said.
“Now I want to do the same before you and my God. I swear to God I have never facilitated any attack on my community.
“If I have ever done that or informing bandits about military movement or any of my subjects, may God not allow me to witness another week,” he said.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the commissioner’s residence was torched by angry youths in the area. The youths also vandalized some vehicles at the palace of the District Head in Sabon Birni.
Police Public Relations Officer, Sanusi Abubakar said five suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.
Isa is one of the local government areas experiencing banditry in the state.
