The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) said it will hold an emergency meeting on October 2 in Abuja to decide on its planned strike.
The association had earlier given the federal government a 21-day ultimatum to address the issues raised by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), and other affiliates.
NARD has been on strike for months over conditions of services, among others.
A notice of meeting issued by the NMA said: “Notice is hereby given for an Emergency Delegates Meeting (EDM) of the Nigerian Medical Association.
“This is sequel to the request by majority of our National Executive Council (NEC) members for a physical meeting instead of the earlier scheduled virtual meeting and taking into consideration the forthcoming NARD AGM and availability of Venue that can amply accommodate all delegates on the 2nd October, 2021.
Venue: Royal Choice Inn, Behind CBN Iiead Qt. Central Business District Abuja, FCT Agendum: Review of the progress of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding Between Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and The Nigerian Medical Association.”
