Five students have been kidnapped by bandits a few hours after writing their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Shinkafi area of Zamfara state.
The students, according to sources, comprised three males and two females.
A resident of the area, Mamman Bashar, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the students were abducted on Tuesday by the gunmen while they were returning to Birnin Yero from Shinkafi town after they wrote their Mathematics exams.
He added that they were kidnapped between Jangeru and Birnin Yero.
“The bandits were moving towards Sabon Birni in Sokoto state but have been targeting students of some secondary schools in Shinkafi. The five students were all from Birnin Yero under Shinkafi local government area,” Bashar said.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, at the office of the Zamfara State Security Adviser, said the office has been briefed.
“I can confirm to you that the Security Adviser was briefed yesterday (Tuesday). The names of the students have also been forwarded to the office,” he said.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Mohammed Shehu, couldn’t be reached due to the suspension of all mobile telecommunications networks in the state.
