The Guma Local Government Legislative Council in Benue State has suspended the local government chairman, Mr. Caleb Aba, for alleged misconduct.
Guma is the home of Governor Samuel Ortom.
Aba is also said to be the godson of the governor.
The chairman was suspended at the legislative council’s sitting of 14th September, 2021 in Gbajimba, headquarters of the local government.
The notice of his suspension was signed by all the 10 members of the legislative council.
Among the offences that led to the suspension of the chairman include alleged turning of the council into his personal business, unlawful sale of council’s shares at Benue Cement Company and forgery of legislative documents.
Others include alleged refusal to tender comprehensive income and expenditure despite several calls by the house since assumption of office in June, 2020; travelling outside the country without notifying the legislative council among others.
“In view of the above the house has passed a vote of no confidence on him and suspends him from office for three month. The house has directed him to hand over to his deputy with immediate effect until full investigations are concluded,” the council noted.
The suspended chairman could not be immediately reached for his comments on the development as his GSM line is switched off.
