The police in Adamawa have arrested a 19-year-old lady, Rumasau Muhammed, for allegedly stabbing her husband, Muhammed Adamu, to death.
The incident occurred at Wuro Yanka village in Shelleng local government area of Adamawa State, three weeks after their marriage.
Spokesperson of the state Police Command Suleiman Nguroje, said Rumasau was married to the deceased on August 6, 2021, against her will. He said after some time, the 19-year-old asked for a divorce from the 35-year-old husband, which was rejected by him.
“Angered by his refusal to divorce her after several requests, the suspect used a knife and stabbed him on his stomach, as a result of which he fell down unconscious and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” Nguroje said.
“The suspect was apprehended by the Police in Shelleng Divisional headquarters, following a report that was received from one Jophas Johnsley, a friend of the deceased.”
The spokesperson said the state Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Adamu, has ordered an investigation into the matter. He said the Police Commissioner advised members of the public to avoid engaging their wards and children in early and forced marriage.
