Bandits are abandoning their motorbikes and freeing their captives because of the blockade of food, fuel, means of communication, and ongoing military operations in Zamfara state, Governor Bello Matawalle has said.
He disclosed this in an interview with Deutsche Welle Radio monitored in Abuja.
The governor said the massive operation against bandits is yielding tremendous result.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed telecommunication companies to shutdown their networks in the state as parts of measures to tackle insecurity.
Matawalle said bandits are being forced to release people in captivity because they can not feed them.
He said people that held for long time have returned to their homes and the bandits are abandoning their motorbikes because they have run out of fuel.
