The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker committee and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has hailed party stakeholders and members for the “rancour-free” local government congress.
The commendation came amid reports of parallel congresses in some states where discontents among key stakeholders were unresolved.
Reports had indicated that parallel congresses took place in Lagos, Osun, Ekiti,
Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Kwara, Ogun and Enugu states during the Saturday exercise.
However, Buni in a statement by his media aide, Mamman Mohammed described the exercise as successful even as he acknowledged the existence of crisis within the party.
He said, “The doors of reconciliation are always open in the party to build a strong and united APC.
“We should therefore explore and exploit the opportunities available to settle all differences.
“I am highly elated that we are progressing at every stage of the congress, l am optimistic that the party will at the end of the congresses produce a generally acceptable and credible leadership that will build on the successes recorded for a strong, united, and a winning APC.”
However, a member of the caretaker committee and former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, said the party would not recognise the outcome of the parallel congresses.
Nnamani who spoke in Enugu, noted that only the congress supervised by national officers would be recognised.
He said: “You can see the authentic official congress committee dispatched by the national body. It’s where you find that official body that stands the test of time.
“I’m a member of the caretaker committee. We said that any parallel congress is null and void. We advised every person.
“So, where did they get the official papers (result sheets) that they’re using for the returning of the results and the rest of them? So, what they’re doing is not authentic.”
