The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed the immediate shutdown of all telecommunication services in Zamfara State.
This is to enable security operatives route the bandits wrecking wanton havoc in the state.
This is coming after the state alongside Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Katsina – all bedeviled by banditry- shutdown schools, banned livestock transport, suspended weekly markets, banned sale of petrol in jerrycans as measures of curtailing the menace.
Zamfara state has become the epicentre of banditry with true assailants ransacking villages, killing hundreds, abducting students, among other atrocities.
The telecom services shutdown was sequel to a letter written by the Zamfara State Government to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, dated August 31, 2021, with reference number GHG/OEG/ADM?10/Vol.1.
This was contained in a letter signed on Friday by Prof. Umar G. Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the NCC and directed to one of the telecom company.
The letter titled “Re: Shutdown of All Telecom Sited in Zamfara State” directed the shutdown of all its sites in the State and neigbouring states.
“The pervading security situation on Zamfara State has necessitated an immediate shutdown of all telecommunications services in the state from today September 03, 2021. This is to enable relevant security agencies to carry out required activities towards addressing the security challenges in the state,” the letter read.
