Bandits suspected to be loyal to Turji have kidnapped an unspecified number of students of Government Day Secondary School, Kaya in Maradun local government area of Zamfara state.
Maradun is the hometown of Governor Muhammad Bello Matawalle.
A local from Maradun, Shafiu Bala, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the students were kidnapped Wednesday afternoon while they were in their school.
“I don’t know how many of them have been kidnapped but I’m sure because some of the students and teachers ran home,” he said.
A top Government House source in Gusau said the governor has been informed of the abduction and a security meeting is currently ongoing.
“He and some of his top aides and commissioners are meeting with various heads of security agencies in the state. They may release a statement afterwards,” he said.
The state police command spokesperson, SP Mohammed Shehu, couldn’t be reached on telephone.
