The Kaduna State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of its former deputy speaker, Mukhtar Isa-Hazo.
Hazo, a member representing Basawa constituency, along with three others were suspended on August 11, 2020, over a fracas that ensued in the House on July 11.
A committee, headed by Shehu Yunusa, had recommended the suspension and reprimand of the affected members in accordance with the Assembly’s Code of Conduct.
However, the decision to lift the suspension followed a motion moved by the member representing Zaria Kewaye constituency, Ahmad Muhammad, during plenary on Wednesday.
“I stand before you to refresh your memory that sometime in April last year, I raised a motion on the suspension of four members of the assembly,” Mohammed said.
“Namely, Alhaji Mukhtar Isa Hazo, former deputy speaker, Salisu Isa, member representing Magajin Gari constituency, Alhaji Yusuf Liman of Makera/Kakuri and Mr Nuhu Goroh Shadalafiya, representing Kagarko constituency.
“I am here today, to plead with the honourable speaker and the honourable members of the house on behalf of one of them, Alhaj Mukhtar Isa-Hazo of Basawa constituency, who has been pleading publicly more than once and on several occasions.
“Because of the remorse he showed, I am pleading with the speaker to look into his matter to recall him back to the chamber so as to continue with his legislative duty.
“The God we all serve is a forgiving one, and if someone hurts you and you forgive, then the Almighty will forgive your own sin too.
“It is our prayer that they will hopefully be back with us by the next plenary sitting.”
He said that the disciplinary action would serve as a deterrent to the other three members, to publicly ask for forgiveness so they could be recalled.
