Seven members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have resigned as the internal crisis rocking the party deepened.
Their resignation was confirmed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, retired Col. Austin Akobundu on Tuesday in Abuja.
Akobundu said those who resigned were deputies not substantial heads of departments.
He, however, refrained from giving the names of the affected NWC members and further details as to why the affected persons withdrew their membership.
There are however speculations that the affected persons include the deputy national financial secretary, the deputy legal adviser, the deputy national auditor, the deputy national publicity secretary, the deputy women leader and the deputy organising secretary.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the party has been enmeshed in crisis resulting in crack within its fold.
It has recently lost three governors elected on its platform to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over unresolved issues.
As at the time of filing this report, members of the party’s National Reconciliation Committee-led by its chairman and former Senate President Bukola Saraki are in Ibadan over the crisis in the Oyo chapter.
Saraki who led the delegation on visit to Governor Seyi Makinde was accompanied by a former governor of Cross Rivers State, Liyel Imoke and former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim.
