The Katsina State House of Assembly has approved the creation of Durmukul district in Daura senatorial district of the state.
Durmukul, President Muhammadu Buhari’s ancestral village, is in Daura local government area but currently in Koza district of Mai’adua local government area.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk Umar, on Friday hinted to the President of plans for the creation of the district to honour Buhari.
The lawmakers gave the approval at an emergency plenary session presided by the speaker, Tasiu Musa Zango.
House leader, Abubakar Sulaiman Korau, and Mustapha Rabe sponsored the motion to that effect which was unanimously endorsed by the House.
Rabe, who represents Mai’adua, said the motion followed a request from Governor Aminu Bello Masari in line with section 7 sub section 1 and 2 of Katsina state local government law 2000 as amended.
After the deliberation, the speaker directed the clerk of the House to communicate to the executive arm for further actions.
The chairman of the House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Hussaini Dan Kanjiba, said the creation of another district would be a milestone in the traditional and political development of the state.
