An Air Peace aircraft had a tyre burst after landing at the Ilorin International Airport, Kwara State.
The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) said this Saturday evening more than 24 hours after the incident.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE earlier reported how a tragedy was averted in Ilorin as a passenger aircraft crash-landed and blocked the runaway.
The accident also forced the closure of the runway of the Ilorin International Airport to all air traffic.
All flights to Ilorin airport have been cancelled.
There are no casualty from the incident.
Some of the passengers on board include some highly placed Nigerians, who narrowly escaped death.
In a statement on Saturday, AIB revealed the name of the airline, saying the Air Peace aircraft had tyres burst after landing in Ilorin Airport and not a crash landing.
Mr Tunji Oketunbi, AIB General Manager, Public Affairs, said this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.
“This is to confirm an incident involving Air Peace B737-500 with registration Mpmarks 5N-BQR that occurred on July 23 in Ilorin, at about 10:30 a.m local time.
“There were 66 passengers and six crew members on board. AIB safety investigators did an evaluation of the occurrence and decided not to investigate.
“The aeroplane has been released to the operator (Air Peace).
“The delay in opening the airport is down to the recovery of the Aeroplane from the Runway by FAAN and Air Peace. The aeroplane had a tyre burst on landing roll.
The airline began operation from Ilorin Airport on June 16.
Reports indicate that the aircraft crash landed at about 9.30am on Friday morning. It was coming from Abuja.
As at at 2.08pm on Saturday, officials were still working to remove the big aircraft from the runway.
