Security operatives have rescued a 12-year-old boy that was kidnapped inside a coffin along a border town between Nigeria and Republic of Benin.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE learnt that the abductors had smuggled him into a coffin and covered him with a white cloth.
Spokesperson of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Zaid Afolabi who confirmed the incidents on Saturday didn’t disclose when the incident happened.
He said the Immigration officials spotted the unmarked vehicle with two occupants and flagged it down.
“It was when the immigration officers searched the vehicle that they discovered a coffin and when they opened the coffin, a minor of about 12-years-old was seen inside the casket, covered with white cloth,” Babawale said.
He said the Immigration officials alerted NSCDC and other security agencies involved in border patrol.
Babawale said the two occupants of the vehicle escaped into the bush, but efforts are ongoing to arrest them.
“The boy has been medically examined and found to be fine while further check revealed that the boy is from a village in Benin Republic,” he said.
“The rescued minor has been handed over to the policemen in Benin Republic for further investigations and subsequent reunion with his family,” Babawale added.
