The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has imposed curfew in Effium community in Ohaukwu local government area, following days of civil disturbance, killings and destruction of property.
In a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Orji Uchenna Orji, the governor directed security agencies to “ensure strict enforcement of the curfew and to deal decisively with any person or group of persons involved in killings and or destruction of property of the people no matter whose ox is gored.”
Effin community was thrown into confusion when two factions of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed over leadership tussle, leading to the death of seven people and destruction of property.
Some people, including the local government chairman and a state legislator, have been arrested by the Police in connection to the incident.
