The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, says he has secured a registration licence for Plateau State Government. to register residents for the National Identity Number.
The Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Macham Makut, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Residents of Plateau State had recently faced challenges getting the National Identity Number as a result of few enrolment centres in the state.
Makut said the approval was conveyed to the Governor by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy through the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz.
He said the approval indicated that the Plateau State Government can now participate in the registration of residents of the state into the national identity database in line with the provisions of the NIMC Act and other guidelines issued.
Makut said the licence granted to the state is for one year and it is subject to renewal upon satisfactory performance during the period.
