The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has lifted the suspension of the state chairman of the party, Tony Aziegbemi.
According to a statement by the publicity secretary of the party, Chris Nehikhare, the suspension was lifted by the State Working Committee after the investigation panel set up to probe the allegation of misconduct levelled against the chairman exonorated him.
Aziegbemi was suspended by SWC in early June after his face-off with Governor Godwin Obaseki, who he accused of plotting to hijack the party structure with his loyalists from All Progressives Congress (APC).
Weeks after he reported the alleged move to the Uche Secondus-led National Working Committee (NWC), he was suspended.
“The SWC suspended the chairman for gross misconduct by brewing unnecessary tension and disunity among party members in the state.
“The suspension was ratified by two third of the SWC members at the meeting on Tuesday in Benin.
“The SWC resolved in a motion that Aziegbemi should step aside until the determination of the allegations against him,” the party had noted through a statement by Nehikhare.
However, in another statement on Saturday, Nehikhare said the panel has given the embattled chairman a clean bill of health.
He said: “Members of SWC of Edo PDP, after their meeting, called to deliberate on the report of the committee set up to investigate the allegations of gross misconduct against the Chairman, Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, have exonerated and acquited him. The suspension has therefore been lifted.
“Consequently, Edo Chairman of PDP, Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, will resume his office with immediate effect.”
