Vigilantes in Kogi State have killed three kidnappers during a gun battle in their (kidnappers’) enclave in Ottoyi forest.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon, according to one of the vigilantes that were engaged in the operation.
He said kidnapping gangs operate along the Niger and Kogi environment, especially within the enclave of the Ottoyi forest.
He revealed that the vigilante accosted one of the gang members who came to buy foodstuff and in the process promised to lead the operatives to their hideouts.
The vigilante said that rather than leading them to his cohorts, the gang laid ambush on them, but they (kidnappers) were overpowered by the vigilantes.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to Kogi state governor, Muhammed Onogwu, attributed the successes in the fight against crime as a product of collaborations among security agencies, as well as local vigilantes in the state.
