An international Non-Governmental Organization (iNGO), ACTED, has been suspended from activities in Borno State following discovery that it was using a hotel in Maiduguri for “training some persons on shooting.”
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum issued the suspension through his spokesperson, Isa Gusau, on Saturday.
Gusau said the French NGO was found using toy guns and simulators in training exercises at a hotel located off circular road in Maiduguri.
He said after the matter was reported at the GRA Divisional Police Headquarters by a government official, Police operatives stormed the hotel and discovered some toy pistols at the hotel with two trainers, both Nigerians.
“Pending the outcome of police investigation, Governor Zulum has directed sealing of the hotel and suspension of ACTED from any humanitarian activity in Borno State,” Gusau said in a statement.
He said Zulum appreciates the roles of credible iNGOs which he said have been providing critical humanitarian interventions in different parts of Borno, and assured them of government’s cooperation and support “while also upholding obedience to prevailing laws, policies and rules guiding all activities and actions across the state.”
