Eighteen people have been killed in a car accident along Maiduguri road in Birnin Kudu local government area of Jigawa State.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Lawan Shisu Adam, who confirmed the incident said the accident occurred around 6pm on Wednesday.
He said early investigation has revealed that the accident involved two buses which had head-on-collision and instantly went on flame, killing 12 passengers.
Adam said six passengers that were taken to Birnin Kudu Hospital died as a result of injuries they sustained from the accident.
He said a driver of one of the buses survived the accident but sustained injuries including fracture in his leg.
