The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday advised Federal and State Governments to map out bicycle lanes in future road constructions in order to reduce the huge costs of transportation, traffic crashes, and hours on the road.
The FRSC Kwara Sector Commander, Corps Commander Jonathan Owoade, gave the advice on Tuesday.
The commander had on Monday led a convoy of riders along major roads in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, to commemorate World Bicycle Day.
The United Nations General Assembly to celebrate and create awareness on the advantages of non-motorised means of transportation.
“The use of bicycles will, among other things, positively impact on the society, reduce the huge costs associated with other means of transportation and save time,” Owoade said.
“Nigerians should embrace the use of bicycle as a means of transportation.”
He said the use of bicycle as a means of transportation would help resolve health issues, improvement of mental ability, and elimination of traffic gridlock in urban areas and reduction of gas emissions, which posed a great danger to climate change.
