Three soldiers attached to the son of former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, have been killed in a car crash.
A family source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the accident happened on Monday along Minna – Suieja road around 11am.
Mr Muhammed Babangida, the eldest son of the former military ruler, was traveling to Abuja from Minna, Niger State, when the accident occurred.
Three of the four soldiers attached as security detail to Muhammed were killed when their escort vehicle, a Prado Jeep, had a head-on collision with a truck loaded with tomatoes.
The source said the crash occurred around Malam Karo, about 2 kilometres to the NNPC Depot in Maje, near Suleja.
“Three of the soldiers died on the spot while the fourth one was critically wounded. The deceased are Tanko (the driver), Afolabi and Jibrin. They all died on the spot,” the source who craved for anonymity said.
The security detail were driving in a separate vehicle following the former president’s son.
It was learned that the vehicle collided with the truck which was trying to avoid a pothole.
This newspaper gathered that the remains of the soldiers were taken to Minna, but it was not clear whether they have been buried.
