There is controversy surrounding the circumstances leading to the death of Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Professor Godswill Obioma, in Minna last night.
According to his wife Mrs Elizabeth Obioma, the professor Obioma was strangled to death at his residence in Minna, Niger State capital, Monday night.
She disclosed this in an interview with journalists Tuesday morning.
She said her husband had just returned to Minna from a trip to Abuja when the armed men, lurking in his compound, descended on him and strangled him.
But hours later, a statement credited to Mustapha K. Abdul, Director Human Resource Management, NECO, revealed that the NECO boss died of heart failure.
The NECO director quoting a son of the deceased, Prince Godswill Obioma, said the professor had died of heart attack
Obioma, 67, was appointed head of NECO barely a year ago on May 14, 2020.
He hailed from Abia State in Nigeria’s South-East region.
The state police command is yet to comment on the incident.
