Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has set up a panel to control raging inferno in the state and take stock of the early morning Tuesday fire that gutted parts of Shehu Shagari Modern Market in Sokoto.
The inferno, which started around 6 a.m, destroyed shops and other facilities at the market till midday.
The combined team of Sokoto State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) were battling to put out the fire at midday on Tuesday.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and men of the Nigerian Police were also on hand to maintain safety and security.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal told the committee headed by the deputy governor, Manniru Dan’iya to take stock of losses suffered by traders.
“We are tasking them with the responsibility of not only bringing this under control but also taking stock of losses suffered so that the government can now see how it can come in to support our citizens who have lost valuables and property to this inferno,” he said.
