Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) smashed a “terrorist” group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) in the western province of Kurdistan, killing all its members.
The IRGC Ground Force’s Hamzeh Seyyed Al-Shohada Base said this in a statement.
The group’s members, who were foreign nationals trained by the IS, sought to carry out suicide attacks in the province during Nowruz holidays, the statement said.
Nowruz holiday is the celebration of the start of the new year on the Persian calendar that began on March 21.
The members were identified by the provincial security and intelligence organisations, it said.
It added that the IRGC’s operation was timely and decisive.
There was no specification or the exact number of the “terrorists” or the date of the operation. (Xinhua/NAN)
