The Kano State Police Command has constituted a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to investigate Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II for alleged defiance of the durbar ban imposed by the police across the state during the Eid-el- fitr celebrations.
This was revealed in a statement by the command’s spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Wednesday.
The panel will also look into the violence that erupted in the entourage of the emir after Eid prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
The panel’s terms of reference will focus on unravelling the remote and immediate causes of the unfortunate incident and any defiance to the Command’s overt ban on all forms of Durbar/Horse-riding throughout the Sallah Celebration, based on security concerns in the state.
He said the incident resulted in the death of one Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, and injured one Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, who is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital Kano.
The Kano State Police Command had earlier arrested one Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters, and one Nasir Idris, ‘m’, of 35 years old, of Kofar Mazugal Quarters Kano, in connection with the incident.
The Command has also extended an invitation to Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku for interrogation following alleged defiance on the Durbar ban.
The Command reiterates its ban on all forms of Durbar and warns that anyone found engaging in such activities will be dealt with decisively.
All forms of thuggery (Daba) activities will not be tolerated, and anyone engaging in any act or conduct that may likely cause a breach of peace or breakdown of law and public order will be made to face the law.
The Special Investigation Panel is charged to expedite action and ensure justice is served, and anyone found culpable is made to face the full wrath of the law.
