Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, has lost re-election into the FIFA Council, missing out by just one vote.
Djibouti’s Souleiman Waberi got 29 votes, to Pinnick’s 28, beating the Nigerian At the Confederation of African Football General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday,
Morocco’s Fouzi Lekjaa won the election after securing 49 votes to beat Egypt’s Hani Rida and Niger’s Djibrilla Hamidou who each polled 35 votes.
Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya and Waberi also secured their places with 29 votes apiece.
The outcome has ended Pinnick’s romance with FIFA’s highest decision-making body since 2021.
Comoros’ Kanizat Ibrahim from Comoros clinched 30 votes to clinch women’s seat after outpacing Lydia Nsekera (13 votes) and Isha Johansen (7 votes).
