Indigenes of Taraba State are expressing concerns over the whereabouts of the Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, who has been absent from office since November last year.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that with the state government not forthcoming with exact information on Alkali’s whereabouts, this has caused anxiety in the state, causing some politicians to begin to lobby for his position.
It was learnt that health condition led the people to think that it could be a similar case with the late Governor Danbaba Suntai as conflicting reports delayed his deputy’s succession.
However, the state Commissioner for Information, Barrister Zainab Usman Jalingo, has said the deputy governor is set to return home from a medical trip to Cairo, Egypt.
The commissioner who disclosed this on Monday after the State Executive Council. He did not however give the exact date Alkali would return home and resume office.
The commissioner said Alkali suffered a stroke in November last year, but is recovering and will soon return to office, adding that her Health counterpart, Dr. Bordiya Buma, had visited Alkali in a Cairo hospital, and briefed the council on his condition.
She said Alkali had the attack in November last year which required treatment in Abuja, adding that the Deputy Governor had to be taken to Cairo, Egypt, for further medical attention when the illness got worse.
According to her, Dr. Buma was sent to go and assess the deputy governor’s condition, and the government can confirm he is responding well to treatment.
Alkali was at first admitted to the National Hospital in Abuja, and when his condition worsened he was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Cairo.
