Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, Thursday afternoon forcefully returned to the assembly complex in company of security details.
According to a source, “Currently, Obasa has forced his way into the assembly chamber.”
The source revealed that Obasa is with his security details and is attempting to gain access to the speaker’s office
Earlier in the day, the police restored Obasa’s security details after the resolution of the crisis by a former National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Osun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Muiz Banire and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and some of the lawmakers reportedly met over the weekend to decide the fate of the Speaker Mojishola Meranda as she was told to step down from the Speakership of the House.
Obasa was removed on January 13 for gross misconduct and abuse of office, and
Meranda, who was Obasa’s deputy, was elected, a development which has polarized the assembly and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.
It was learnt that President Bola Tinubu did not approve of Obasa’s impeaching, thus causing the GAC to put Meranda under pressure to vacate the office.
