Kano State Ministry of Education has announced that it has embarked on an assessment tour to rural areas in the state, ahead of its planned sensitization campaign measures adopted to address out-of-school children in the state
The tour, according to the assessment team lead who is also the state Coordinator for Girl Child Education Hajiya Amina Kassim, is aimed at identifying the root causes of the problem and find solutions through community engagement for an effective and sustainable measure.
“The team has identified key factors contributing to the high number of out-of-school children in rural areas, including poverty, insecurity, and socio-cultural norms,” she said.
Similarly, the Vice Chairman School Based Management Committee SBMC Kano Alhaji Garba Adamu Wudil maintained that by engaging with local communities and stakeholders, the government aims to better understand the complexities of out-of-school children and work towards providing quality education for all.
It can be recalled that recent statistics issued by some development agencies had put the number of out-of-school children in Kano at approximately 837,479 and Kano state has vowed to address the alarming figures by adopting measures that would reduce the numbers in years to come.
