A fire outbreak that engulfed an Almajiri school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State has resulted in the death of 17 pupils.
A security expert Zagazola Makama said the fire occurred on the night of Tuesday, lasting for about three hours before it was brought under control.
Several other almajiri were wounded and are currently receiving medical attention.
Eyewitnesses said the fire was devastating, and its intensity made efforts to contain it very difficult.
Local authorities and volunteers arrived at the scene to assist, but the inferno had already caused severe casualties.
