The first Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bisi Akande, has said a former governor of Oyo State, Oba Rashidi Ladoja may have information on the assassination of former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Bola Ige.
Akande said this in an interview with a journalist, Edmund Obilo, in Ibadan, insisting that some people including a former Oyo State governor, Lam Adesina, can shed more light on the case.
Ige was assassinated on December 23, 2001 at his Bodija residence in Ibadan during the time Akande was Osun State governor.
Akande accused Ladoja of discontinuing a case filed by Lam Adesina, seeking to unravel Ige’s murderer.
“There are many things that die with people. I know Lam Adesina went to court over the matter, and I also know his successor, (Rashidi) Ladoja withdrew the case. Ask Ladoja, he would know more about Bola Ige’s death,” Akande said.
But Ladoja, on Monday, denied the allegations Akande made against him, demanding a public apology to him for accusing him of complicity in the assassination of Ige.
Ladoja, who is the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, said Akande must retract his claims and apologise or he will sue him.
“All options will be taken, including legal action against Akande except he withdraws his statement and tenders a public apology,” Ladoja said,
Ladoja said he had nothing to gain from suppressing the investigation in Ige’s murder, adding that he and Ige were close during his lifetime.
He said, “We are not all happy about Ige’s death. We are all concerned about his death. I was very close to Chief Bola Ige while he was alive.”
