A 30-year-old serial rapist arrested in Sokoto, Hamza Yusuf, says he rapes minors to ascertain whether his manhood was functioning or not.
Yusuf was said to have suffered urinary tract infection, and had to urinate with the aid of a urinary catheter.
The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, Sokoto Command, said the suspect, who is a resident of Kofar Gawo, was rescued by his men at a point of being lynched by a mob.
He said the victim had confessed to raping minors to test whether his manhood was still functional despite his condition.
The commandant said Yusuf was arrested at Mabera on May 5 with three of his victims, who were all below the age of 10.
“Our preliminary investigation proved penetration beyond any reasonable doubt,” he said.
He said the suspect would be released on bail due to the ongoing strike by judicial workers, but with stringent conditions.
The commandant appealed to parents to be alive to their responsibility, as rape had become rampant in the society.
