The Muslim Ummah in Nigeria have been asked to watch out for the crescent of Sha’aban 1446 AH on Wednesday, corresponding to the 29th day of Rajab 1446 AH in the Islamic calendar.
The Waziri of Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, said Sultanate Council of Sokoto gave made the call in a statement on Tuesday.
It advised that when the crescent moon is sighted, the nearest district or village heads should be informed for onward communication to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for official confirmation.
“May Allah (SWT) help us in the discharge of this religious duty. Amen,” the statement said.
The start and end of Sha’aban aids Muslims in preparing for Ramadan.
