At least 15 have been killed when Guinea’s artisanal mine in Siguiri region collapsed on Saturday, a local councillor, Sekou Biniou Simagan, has said.
The bodies of the 15 artisanal miners, who were all male and between the ages of 14 and 40, were retrieved Saturday evening, and buried in a mass grave after funeral rites were performed, Aljazeera reports.
Officials said rescuers have continued to dig through the rubble in search of survivors, on Sunday.
Guinea, a West African country, has witnessed increase incidents at artisanal mines around its border with Mali, where about 20,000 gold miners are saidnto be active.
At least 17 miners were killed in a landslide in February 2019 and another dozen in November.
