Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has revoked 567 plots of land belonging to top Nigerian politicians, public officer holders, among others on Thursday for failing to pay Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) fees.
Those affected include the House of Representatives Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Muhammadu Buhariu Trust Foundation, former Chief Justice of the Federation Walter Onnoghen, Governors Douye Diri and Hope Uzodinma of Bayelsa and Imo States respectively.
THere are also Deputy Chief of Staff to the Vice President Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, daughter of Buhari’s powerful nephew Malam Mamman Daura, Safina; Permanent Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, a former Minister John Owan Enoh and serving Senator Abba Moro.
According to the FCT Administration, the plots of lands are located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja.
The revocation of the lands, the FCT Administration said, followed the expiration of the grace period granted by the minister.
The notice said “pursuant to the provisions of Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for contravention of the terms of grant which obligated the title/interest holders to settle all bills. The general public is, however, invited to note that allottees/title holders who have completed their payments on or before 15/01/2025 are not affected by this publication”.
It would be recalled that Wike on December 19, 2024 revoked land titles belonging to former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, as well as corporate organisations in Abuja, among others.
In all, the minister revoked the ownership of 762 plots of land in the highbrow Maitama District over non-payment of statutory fees.
Following non response by the land owners to pay the Cs of Os, Wike extended the deadline for paying Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) for the 762 plots of land in Maitama to January 3, 2025.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that with the expiration of the January 3, extended deadline, the FCT Administration revoked lands of 568 allottees/title holders whose titles have been withdrawn.
The notice said “The general public is, however, invited to note that allottees/title holders who have completed their payments on or before 15/01/2025 are not affected by this publication.
