Suspected bandits have killed scores with several others missing after invading Baure village in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Baure village is widely known as a bandits’ den where bandits have significant control.
An anonymous local revealed on Friday that the attackers struck on Tuesday moving from house to house in the area killing 15 villagers on the spot while several others were still unaccounted for.
“The hoodlums also burnt some of the corpses”, he noted.
The state police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the attack, but was not forthcoming with additional information.
“Yes, it is true. But I am trying to put all the details together so that I will keep you posted”, he said.
Also, gunmen on Thursday have waylaid members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps in the same Baure village while returning from a condolence visit in the neighbouring Batsari LGA.
Eyewitnesses said about 30 who were killed were mostly are residents of Charanchi, Safana, Kurfi and Kaita LGAs.
“The victims were members of a local vigilante group from different local government areas, who went on a condolence visit to Madaddafai village over the death of one of their members.
“After the condolences, their leaders returned home, but the rest decided to proceed to Baure village where they were ambushed by the bandits”, he said.
The Katsina state police command was yet to confirm the incidents as at press time.
