Kano State Government has asked all landowners across the state to recertify their titles on or before January. 31, 2025.
The Commissioner of Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abdul-Jabbar Umar, gave the order at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday.
He said “I stand here before you today to reinforce the announcement earlier made by the Executive Governor, and accordingly call on all
people holding interest in land across the state, to immediately proceed to the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to register their properties.
“As part of this transformation, all current C-of-Os will be rendered invalid at the expiration of this exercise on Jan. 31, 2025.”
He said the recertification process guaranteed that ownership records were accurate, secure and protected from future disputes, thereby
safeguarding the investments and aspirations of the people.
He said the process would also provide accurate and reliable records by eliminating manual processes, thereby minimising errors, manipulation
of land files and titles and delays in processing transactions.
This, according to him, will also make land ownership verification and updates straightforward
He explained that “the new certificates are designed with advanced security features, rendering them virtually impossible to forge.
“This will ensure the integrity of property rights, while significantly reducing incidents of fraud by criminals.
“I wish to remind the public that this administration has provided an avenue for obtaining land documents affordably and seamlessly.
“It has secured and strengthened land titles, and the latest and state-of-the-art infrastructure has also been provided at the Kano State Geographic
Information System (KANGIS).”
