Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has sacked the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa on Thursday.
Also sacked are the Chief of Staff to the governor, Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose office is now scrapped.
The governor also sacked five other commissioners thus: Ibrahim Jibril Fagge (Finance), Ladidi Ibrahim Garko (Culture and Tourism), Baba Halilu Dantiye (Information and Internal Affairs), Shehu Aliyu Yammedi (Special Duties), and Abbas Sani Abbas (Rural and Community Development).
Mr Yusuf also reassigned other cabinet members to enhance administrative performance and political retool.
Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulssalam, who doubles as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has been moved to Higher Education.
Mr Mohammad Tajo Usman has been moved from Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; while Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, was deployed from Higher Education to Science, Technology and Innovation.
Others on the reassignment list are Amina Abdullahi from Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to Women, Children and Disable; Nasiru Sule Garo, from Environment and Climate Change to Special Duties; Ibrahim Namadi, from Project Monitory and Evaluation to Transport; and Umar Haruna Doguwa, from Education to Water Resources.
Ali Haruna Makoda has been moved from Water Resources to Education; Aisha Lawal Saji, from Women, Children and Disabled to Tourism and Culture; and Muhammad Diggol, from Transport to Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
However, the commissioners who retained their positions include Haruna Isa Dederi (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice); Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Agriculture); Dr. Abubakar Labaran (Health); Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar (Land and Physical Planning); Musa Suleiman Shanono (Budget and Planning); and Engr Marwan Ahmed (Works and Housing).
Former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s son, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, has retained his Youths and Sports portfolio; Safiyanu Musa (Solid and Mineral Resources); Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Auwal (Religious Affairs); Adamu Aliyu Kibiya (Investment and Commerce); and retired Major General Mohammad Inuwa Idris (Internal Security and Special Services).
The rejig was aimed at enabling optimum performance that will drive more dividend of democracy to the good people of Kano state, Dawakin-Tofa said.
