Kano state government has reacted to the early morning armed security operatives takeover of the main palace of the Kano Emir at Kofar Kudu, which restricted people from going into or out of the palace.
However, few hours into the drama, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, in a radio broadcast aired by Freedom Radio blamed authorities from Abuja.
He claimed security personnel took over the emir’s palace without any form of prior caution. He added that the state government had received no form of security threat as claimed by the security operatives adding that the whole arrangement was just a plan to disturb the sanity and sanctity enjoyed by Kano people.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports earlier that armed policemen have taken over the entrances of the emir’s palace and that of Bichi.
A source in the palace told this newspaper that it was “really surprising for an emir to escort a district head to his palace.”
“The whole thing looks political. Why should Emir Sanusi escort a district head to Bichi if not trying to inflame passion? This is puzzling,” the source who declined to be named told one of our correspondents by telephone.
The SSG added that the state gov’t is ready to escort the Emir whenever he is ready adding that the appointment made by the Emir of the new district head of Bichi stands.
A security official in Kano who spoke to this newspaper in confidence said, “The security agencies have the mandate to maintain peace.”
“It is not possible for us to see a dicey security situation and expect us to fold our arms and watch. We have intervened to maintain social order. That was what was done. A nasty situation has been nipped in the bud,” the security official said.
