Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has charged all 44 local government chairmen in the state to remain in their respective LGs to effectively administer the affairs of their people.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of a workshop for LG chairmen, Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs), and secretaries, Gwarzo, who also serves as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, emphasized the importance of leadership and accountability.
The workshop, organized by the Ministry for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), with a theme “Leadership and Professional Ethics,” was designed to equip local government administrators with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to make decisions in their LGs.
A statement by the press secretary to the deputy governor, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu on Sunday, qouted Mr Gwarzo reminding the participants that local governments are the backbone of democracy, and their actions, decisions, and leadership directly impact their communities, the state, and the nation.
He urged the local government bosses to network, share knowledge, and adopt best practices to improve governance at the grassroots.
Earlier, Dr. Yomi Charles, Project Consultant from ASCON, highlighted the workshop’s focus areas: “Conflict Management” and “Qualities of a Leader.”
He stressed that conflict is inevitable in administration and urged leaders to develop skills for managing disputes while maintaining transparency and accountability in their roles.
Also speaking, Zubairu Hamza Masu, Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the workshop.
Speaking on behalf of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, Mr Masu called on the Ministry of Local Government to organize a similar workshop involving members of the House and LG chairmen to ensure smooth administration in the state.
Participants shared their thoughts during the event. Dr. Mani Tsoho, Chairman of Gwarzo LGA, expressed gratitude to the Ministry and the consultants for addressing the workshop’s theme, particularly on conflict resolution.
