The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s failure to produce the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday stalled the planned arraignment of the former governor.
Bello was to face arraignment in the court for alleged money laundering, among a 19-count charge of fraud valued at N82 billion following his remand by an FCT High Court on a 16-count charge valued at N110.4 billion.
It was learnt that the commission could not file the necessary papers to the court so that the case can be listed for the day.
Justice Emeka Nwite who is deciding the case had on October 30 fixed January 21, 2025, to determine the arraignment and the outcome of an appeal at the Supreme Court.
Consequently, EFCC lawyers and security, who had earlier taken positions around the vicinity of the court, withdrew around midday.
