The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is currently tracking 60 constituency projects worth N21 billion across Kaduna State.
The Chief Superintendent of ICPC, Haruna Aminu, who represented the Constituency and Executive Tracking Department under the leadership of the ICPC chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, revealed this.
“We started on Wednesday with the Kafanchan axis, where we tracked at least 21 projects. Now we are in Kaduna main town, Kabala area, focusing on solar-powered street lights across the town.
“Generally, on the solar project, we have seen a level of execution and then from the other angle, we were able to discover some hinges especially on the project. This is a project that touches people’s lives,” he said.
The commission said the move was part of its effort to ensure accountability and transparency in the execution of public-funded projects, adding that it was looking for a way to push the contractor to complete the project.
Aminu said there is no contractor that is going to be skipped because they cannot collect government money and go away without completing projects.
According to him, the era of abandoned projects was over as the commission was to deal with all those who failed to live up to expectations.
Aminu said there were delays in completing some projects, particularly the solar-powered streetlights, have hindered their intended impact on the community.
“These projects are vital to improving livelihoods in Kaduna State. If completed last year as planned, they would have made a significant difference by now,” he added.
He said the next phase of the tracking would be to sanction contractors who fail to execute their projects, ensuring that citizens receive the dividends of democracy.
