Medical doctors in Kano state have resumed services at Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital hours after service withdrawal.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has successfully restored full services at the Hospital following his prompt intervention.
He said the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kano Chapter, Dr. Abdurrahman, confirmed the resumption of services today while addressing the press at the Kano Government House.
According to him, Dr. Abdurrahman stated that the decision to suspend the strike came after a productive meeting with Governor Yusuf, where tensions arising from a misunderstanding between a hospital doctor and a state commissioner were amicably resolved.
It can be recalled that NMA has issued a 48 hours ultimatum to Kano state government to sack the state humanitarian commissioner for allegedly assaulting a female Doctor at the specialist Hospital and when the state government didn’t respond, the doctors withdrew their services at the hospital.
Earlier in the week, during a live radio interview, Governor Yusuf had appealed to the hospital’s doctors to reconsider the strike, citing potential risks to vulnerable patients, particularly pregnant women and children in need of urgent medical attention.
